With winter coming to a close and spring just around the corner, homeowners may be thinking about updating their outdoor landscaping for the warmer months. From replacing dead plants to cutting back overgrown areas, there are several things you can do to get your lawn ready for summer. But before you start dreaming of backyard barbecues and pool parties, make sure to take some time to clean up your landscape after winter.
Remove green waste
With the snows gone, it’s time to remove green waste from your property. Green waste can be recycled with one of Hansen’s many green waste drop off points to be made into organic mulch and compost. We accept green waste materials like:
- Grass
- Leaves
- Bush trimmings
We will happily take your green waste for a small fee, giving you peace of mind that you are doing the best for yourself and the environment.
Get your trees inspected
Get your trees inspected by an ISA certified arborist at Hanen’s Tree Service. They will come to your home for a hassle-free estimate to detect any signs of disease or pests that may put the health of your trees or landscape at risk.
Treat any snow mold
If the grass of your lawn was high during the winter, there’s a chance that it could have matted and developed snow mold. Snow mold is a lawn disease caused by the gray and pink snow mold fungus and can be treated with a preventative fungicide.
Clean out the gutters
Just like you did in the fall, take the time to clean out your gutters. Spring means rainy weather and you want to prevent your gutters from clogging and overflowing. Overflowing gutters can damage the foundation of your home and flood out any landscaping nearby.
Apply fresh mulch
Now is the time to apply organic mulch to your landscaping, as spring mulching will help keep your trees healthy and give your yard a uniform look. Mulch is great for root insulation, water management, and weed prevention. When applying, mix the old mulch with the new and keep it at a depth of 2-4 inches and should start a few inches away from the root crown of the tree.
