How Deep Should Mulch Be In Your Plant Beds and Around Trees?
Hansen’s recommends an overall mulch depth of 3″. This depth will provide adequate feeding and moisture control for trees and shrubs. Keep in mind mulch breaks down at a rate of approximately 1″ per year, making yearly applications necessary.
Deeper depths are generally reserved for playgrounds and natural pathways.
