What to Do After a Tree or Limb Falls on Your Property

1. Get Everyone Away From the Affected Area

Keep people and pets away from the fallen tree, damaged structures, and surrounding debris. Do not climb onto the tree, go beneath damaged limbs, or attempt to cut or move them yourself. Fallen trees and branches can shift unexpectedly.

If someone is injured, trapped, or in immediate danger, call 911 first.

2. Check for Utility Hazards From a Safe Distance

If the tree has fallen on power lines or you see downed wires, stay away and contact your electric utility immediately. Do not touch the tree, branches, fences, or other objects that may be in contact with the wires.

3. Call Hansen’s Tree Service

Call 636-379-1830 and let us know that a tree or limb has already fallen on your home or property.

Be ready to share:

  • Your name, property address, and phone number.
  • Where the tree or limb has fallen.
  • Whether your home, garage, vehicle, fence, or other property is affected.
  • Whether utility lines are involved or access to your property is blocked.

These details help our team understand the situation and explain how to proceed.

4. Document the Damage When It Is Safe

Take photos from a safe location without approaching the fallen tree or entering a damaged area. Contact your homeowners insurance company to report the damage and discuss your claim.

Have your insurance company’s name and claim number available when completing Hansen’s Immediate Response Contract. If you have not received a claim number, call our team for guidance.

Fallen Tree Emergency FAQs

Does My Situation Qualify for Immediate Response Service?

This service is for situations where a tree or limb has already fallen on your home or property. Call Hansen’s to describe what happened and discuss the next steps.

What if the Tree Is Still Standing?

For a standing tree, a hanging limb, or concerns about a tree that may fall, contact Hansen’s to arrange an assessment and discuss the appropriate service. The Immediate Response process on this page is specifically for trees and limbs that have already fallen.

Should I Move Branches Before the Crew Arrives?

Keep clear of the fallen tree and damaged area. Do not cut, pull, or move branches attached to or supporting the tree. Shifting weight can create additional hazards.

Yes. Hansen’s receives confirmation when you submit the signed Immediate Response Contract and then begins mobilizing. Review the rates and billing procedures, complete the required initials, sign, and select “Accept.”

How Quickly Will a Crew Arrive?

Response timing depends on current conditions and demand. During major weather events, Immediate Response requests are handled first come, first served. Contact our team for current scheduling information.
